3rd November 2008 - Fungus.

Some evil looking fungus has been found growing on the woodchip around  the allotments. This one is called verdigris agaric and it is poisonous.  Clearly nobody is going to eat something as slimy and green as this but it is probably worth making sure that children are reminded not to touch mushrooms.

15th August 2008 - Bath Place Community Venture appeal for information.

In 2008, households in Leamington and Warwick District have received red boxes and green bins to hold waste for recycling. The Recycling Memories project at Bath Place Community Venture is looking back to find out how we used to recycle in years gone by. Allotment holders have a reputation for re-using and recycling and are invited to contribute to the Recycling Memories project by sending photographs of successful and inventive recycling. The 'toxic manure' problem I mentioned in my last newsletter is worse than I thought, people who thought they were just having bad luck have realised they have bad muck. I posted some pictures of the effect, if you want to see what it does. http://www.allotment.org.uk/manure2.htm

Paul Wyman has started an online petition to the prime minister to ban the use of Aminopyralid and I'd urge you to sign up. It only takes a minute and we do need to do  something to protect ourselves.   You can sign up here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Aminopyralid/

The other thing I'd like to bring to your attention is the upcoming commons debate on allotments. If we can persuade our MPs to take the shortage of allotments seriously and provide more plots, then we'll all benefit. They won't be interested unless they think there are votes to be had. Please take a moment to read this: http://www.allotment.org.uk/vote.htm

2007 REPORT BY THE ASSOCIATION CHAIR

The excitement of the sunniest, warmest April on record made the wet summer and floods all the more miserable with many of us loosing not only our crops but also contents of sheds and greenhouses.

Whilst fruit crops were very good, those of us on the lower part of the site found little else growing well in the wet.

The provision of traffic lights at the main entrance has been an improvement to the safe exit from the site, we are grateful to the Sailing Club who have made a donation of 200 towards the work.

I would like to thank Pete Betts and Dave Dilworth and others for removing the old fence and replacing it with the new, quotes for this work were coming in at over 4,000 so we are very grateful that they offered to carry out this work for us at a greatly reduced cost.

It is our intention to plant this new fence with climbing roses and native hedge plants to create an attractive and impenetrable boundary, we would be grateful if anyone would like to volunteer to help maintain this hedge.

We are asking members to please ensure that the gate is now closed at all times.

Badgers are still visiting the site as are the Muntjac although neither appear to be causing as much damage as was previously predicted. We are planning a survey of the site over the winter to see if there are any gaps in the fencing or other ways that they may be gaining access.

There is still a large amount of petty thieving going on, the Committee take all thefts seriously and any information will be treated with confidentiality and anyone found stealing will be immediately evicted from the site and reported to the police.

I would like to thank Gordon Simms for maintaining the water system, Pete Betts for running the seed scheme, and along with Dave Dilworth for the work on the main gate fencing. Graham Willington for removing rubbish from the flood and keeping Car Park clear. If anyone spots who is dumping rubbish on the Car Park I would be grateful to know.

The Committee is always appreciative of offers to help with the maintenance of the site, you do not have to be a Committee member to do these things, we are however always on the lookout for new Committee members who are available to attend meetings once a month for no more than an hour, whilst we are grateful for members who are able to offer practical help we seek to have a Committee representative of all our members. I must however stress that the Committee can only operate properly if members participate and attend meetings regularly.

I am currently in the process of re-letting plots, and, as we still have a waiting list can assure you all plots will be let over the next few weeks.
